A dark, high-density theme for brands that release in drops

Volt 2 — theme guide

Volt 2 is a dark, high-density Shopify theme for brands that release products in drops: streetwear and sneakers, performance gear, tech accessories, supplements, and energy brands.

This guide covers setup, every section, and the settings that matter most.

Getting started

After installing Volt 2, open Online Store → Themes → Customize. Four things are worth doing before anything else.

1. Add your logo and favicon. Under Theme settings → Branding. Without a logo Volt 2 prints your store name in the display typeface, which looks deliberate, so this is optional rather than urgent. Logo width is adjustable from 60 to 300 px.

2. Set your colours. Under Theme settings → Colors. Volt 2 ships near-black with an electric accent, but every value is yours to change:

SettingShips asUsed for
Background#0B0B0CThe page canvas
Text#F5F5F2Body and heading text
Surface#141418Cards, media tiles, drawers, inputs
Secondary text#8E8E99Data labels and supporting copy
Borders and lines#2B2B33Hairline rules
Accent#CCFF00Buttons, bars, highlights, active states
Text on accent#0B0B0CType drawn on the accent colour
Sale and alert#FF3B1FSale prices, sold out, low stock — nothing else

Volt 2 works as a light theme too: set Background to a near-white and Text to a near-black, and everything follows. Keep contrast high — text on the accent colour in particular, since that pairing appears on every primary button.

3. Choose your fonts. Under Theme settings → Typography. Volt 2 pairs a display font used for every heading (Archivo by default) with a body font (Inter). Headings always render uppercase with tight letter-spacing, so pick a grotesque that holds up large. Data — SKUs, stock, counters — always uses your system’s monospace font and is not configurable.

4. Pick your cart style. Under Theme settings → Cart, choose Drawer (a panel slides in, shoppers stay on the page) or Page (adding to cart goes to the cart page). Drawer is the default and converts better for most stores.

The three things that make Volt 2 look like Volt 2

The accent bar. A 4px bar in your accent colour, sitting under section headings and snapping in under navigation links. Most sections have a Show accent bar checkbox if you want it off.

The corner cut. Every product image and card has one corner cut away. It is what makes Volt 2 recognisable at thumbnail size. Control it under Theme settings → Style → Corner cut (0–32px, ships at 14). Set it to 0 for square tiles.

Spec rows. The monospace data line under product titles — SKU RX9-BLK · ★4.8 (412) · 8 LEFT. Turn it off under Theme settings → Product cards → Show spec row. See Getting the most out of spec rows below.

Getting the most out of spec rows

Spec rows only show information that genuinely exists on your products. Nothing is invented, and each item is skipped when its data is missing.

  • SKU — appears when the variant has a SKU. Fill these in.
  • Rating — reads the standard reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count metafields. Any reviews app that writes those will populate the stars with no extra setup.
  • Stock — appears when the variant tracks inventory, is set to don’t sell when out of stock, and has stock at or below your Low stock threshold (Theme settings → Product cards, ships at 10). Set it to 0 to never show counts.
  • Sold out — replaces the stock item when a product is unavailable.

If a product has none of these, the row simply does not render.

Homepage sections

Volt 2 ships a homepage you can rearrange, remove from, or rebuild entirely.

Hero. Your opening statement. Add an image (and optionally a different mobile image) and choose a height. Blocks: a kicker, a heading, body text, and up to two buttons. Wrap a word of the heading in italics in the rich-text editor and Volt 2 renders it in your accent colour instead — that is how BUILT FOR DROPS gets its highlight. The Meta line setting prints a monospace strip like Drop 04 // Live now.

With no image, the hero sizes itself to its content rather than reserving a full screen. Add an image to get the full-height treatment.

Marquee. A scrolling strip of messages separated by //. Three background styles (accent, inverted, outline) and three text sizes. It pauses on hover, has a pause button for keyboard users, and stops entirely for visitors who prefer reduced motion. Use it for drop timing, shipping thresholds, or restock notices.

Featured collection. Your product grid. Choose the collection, how many products, and how many columns on desktop and mobile. This is where grid spacing matters most — see below.

Stat bar. Big numbers with labels: dispatch time, returns window, orders shipped. Each stat has a value, a label, and an optional note. Keep these factual; invented urgency is against Shopify’s rules and Volt 2 has no feature for it.

Image with text. A story block. Includes an Index label setting that prints an oversized numeral (01) beside the content.

Collection list. Category tiles built from your collections.

Testimonials. Customer quotes in hard-cut panels, as a grid or a carousel.

Newsletter. An email signup band. Subscribers land in your customer list marked as accepting email marketing.

Multicolumn, Rich text, Contact form, Custom section are also available from Add section.

Grid density

Theme settings → Layout → Grid spacing controls the gap in every product grid across the theme, from 0 to 32px. Volt 2 ships at 12px, which is tight on purpose — it fits more product on screen and is a large part of why the theme reads as a shopping interface rather than a brochure.

If your photography is busy or your products have varied shapes, 16–20px gives each item more room without losing the density.

Product pages

The product page holds price, variants, and add to cart in a fixed panel, and a slim buy bar follows shoppers down long pages so checkout stays one tap away (turn it off in the section settings if you prefer).

Everything in the panel is a block you can reorder or remove: vendor, title, price, variant picker, quantity, buy buttons, description, collapsible rows, SKU, share, and pickup availability. Apps that provide product blocks can be added here too.

Variant pickers render as buttons by default, or as dropdowns — set it in the section settings. Products with colour swatches configured in Shopify get square swatches automatically. Combinations that are unavailable for the current selection are struck through rather than hidden, so shoppers can see what exists.

Collapsible rows are the place for shipping, returns, materials, and care. Add as many as you need.

Media supports images, video, external video, and 3D models. The first image loads at high priority; the rest load as shoppers scroll.

Collection pages and filtering

Collection pages have a technical toolbar with a live product count, sorting, and a filter drawer.

Filters require the free Search & Discovery app. Install it and configure your filters there — Volt 2 renders whatever the storefront exposes: checkboxes, price ranges, and swatches. Without the app the filter button simply does not appear.

Filtering updates the grid in place without a full page reload, keeps the URL in sync so results are shareable, and still works with JavaScript disabled.

The header search opens a panel with predictive results as shoppers type, covering products, articles, and pages. The full search page adds sorting and filtering.

Cart

With the drawer enabled, adding to cart slides a panel in from the right. Quantities update in place, line-level discounts show against each item, and the totals read as a monospace ledger.

Both cart styles support order notes and show taxes and shipping as calculated at checkout.

Accessibility

Volt 2 is built to the Shopify Theme Store’s accessibility bar and audits at 100 on the homepage and collection pages. Navigation, the product form, sorting and filtering all work without JavaScript. Everything is keyboard operable, focus indicators are visible throughout, and all motion — the marquee included — stops for visitors who have reduced motion enabled.

If you change the colour settings, check contrast: body text needs 4.5:1 against its background, and large text and borders need 3:1.

Troubleshooting

My product cards have no spec row. The products have no SKUs, no review metafields, and no tracked inventory near the threshold. See Getting the most out of spec rows.

My hero is short. No hero image is set. Volt 2 sizes an imageless hero to its content on purpose. Add an image for the full-height treatment.

The filter button is missing. Install the Search & Discovery app and configure at least one filter.

My accent colour looks wrong on buttons. Check Text on accent — it needs to contrast strongly against your accent colour, since it is the button label.

Stock counts are not showing. The variant must track inventory, use the don’t sell when out of stock policy, and sit at or below your Low stock threshold.
